Leaves that have fallen in the plant-beds, under large tree, let them be there. (as far as possible).
In case plant beds are situated near a tree where leaves do not fall naturally, then do active mulching there. Remember the rule of thumb, soil should always be covered, either with green mulch or dry leaves.

Crush the leaves and make a cover by placing them on the soil around the plant.
